Should I Choose Rattan Garden Furniture?

Should I Choose Rattan Garden Furniture?

When we talk about rattan we mean PE resin rattan which is a synthetic material rather than natural rattan which is a tropical palm. Natural rattan is prone to damage from the element which drastically reduces its life span when used outdoors – sunlight will bleach the weave and wet weather will eventually rot the rattan.

PE resin rattan is a type of plastic that weather resistant and light weight which makes it ideal for use as outdoor garden furniture. It will continue to look good year after year with minimal maintenance, just a quick spray with the hose and a wipe down with a sponge.

Buyer Beware – Poor Quality Rattan Garden Furniture

Rattan garden furniture has become very popular over the last couple of years with sellers sourcing cheap rattan garden furniture, so look out for the following:

  • Is the rattan a solid colour all the way through? With cheap rattan you could scratch the surface and reveal the real (unsightly) colour of the plastic below. Good quality PE resin rattan is a solid colour throughout the weave.
  • How long is their guarantee? Our furniture comes with a 5 year guarantee and is tested by us for at least 12 months before being sold. All of us own a piece of our garden furniture and have experience with the quality.
  • What material are the feet? For longer life the feet of your garden furniture should be stainless steel which is resistant to rust and corrosion. Some furniture has rubber stoppers which is also quite effective, just be careful not to frag your garden furniture across the patio and risk knocking them off.
